We spend way too much time on our phones. The average phone user spends 4 hours and 30 minutes everyday. 4 HOURS AND 30 MINUTES! That’s 1642 hours a year spent on mostly nothing.
Imagine if we used those hours to try to work on a side project or find new ways to make extra money. Feel guilty yet? How about we start correcting things by using your phone to make money and funny enough, some apps help you do just that.
In this post, we round up the best money making apps as of January 2021, so you can end the mindless scrolling, and start watching your money count go up.
The Best Money Making Apps As Of January 2021
These are apps that will pay some money for doing something in return. Some of these will pay to walk, take surveys, watch videos; you name it. Let’s see the best get-paid-to apps to download.
Best Overall Money Making App: Swagbucks
Swagbucks: Our Pick For Best Money Making app
- Diversity in which you can make money.
- Reputable and trustworthy.
- Flexibility and ability to make money anywehre
Swagbucks is one of the most popular and widely used money-making apps. One big reason why it’s so popular is the versatility of ways you can use it to make money.
You can make money with Swagbucks:
- Watching videos
- Searching the web
- Playing games
But the best money making way is taking online surveys. A lot of side hustlers I know use this app to make an extra $50 to $200 bucks per month depending on how much and how effective they are using it.
All in all, I believe that Swagbucks is one of the best money making apps all around, so I don’t see why you shouldn’t give it a shot.
Runner Up App: MindWarms
MindWarms: High Paying Surveys
- High paying surves ($50 flat rate).
- Record answers in video format.
- Must use a VPN.
If you are camera shy, you need to consider getting over that now cause MindWarms is a legit money-making-app that pays you for taking surveys.
MindWarms pays a $50 flat fee per survey. The catch is that you need to record those answers in the video. Their studies take about 15 minutes to complete, and the only complaint I could find about them is that they don’t have an abundance of surveys to take.
They do require you to use a VPN, so pay attention to that.
Also Great: InboxDollars
InboxDollars: Great Alternative to Swagbucks
- You can make money taking surveys, shopping, playing games, and even reading emails
- Paid over 60M to their users.
Yet another reputable get-paid-to app. InboxDollars has been around the survey scene since 2000, and they have paid over $60 Million to their members.
Generally speaking, Inboxdollars surveys earn you between $.50 and $5, but you can see the pay before indulging in polls, so it’s pretty easy to pick the high paying ones over the low paying surveys.
Taking surveys isn’t the only way to make money with this app, other methods include: watching videos, playing games, shopping online, surfing the web, reading emails, but through my research, I found that taking surveys is your best money winner.
So how does InboxDollars pay you? Well, three ways:
- Paypal and ePayment
- Gift Cards
- Mail Check
You must get $30 before you can cash out, though.
Best For Shoppers: Earny
Earny: Money Making App For Shoppers
- Earn money passively through refunds, deals and discounts.
- Allows you to earn money when shopping.
Earny is another #freemoney app. Essentially, you earn refunds on products you bought with credit cards or retailer apps when the prices drop due to price protection policies. I’m not going to pretend that I understand these policies or have the time to learn about them. That’s why Earny is a lifesaver as it does all that work for you.
Another neat feature of this app is that you can put products on the watchlist, so you get notified when their prices drop. Next to the phone app, Earny also has a chrome extension that makes tracking deals even more straightforward.
By now, you might be asking how you can make money with this app?
Well, Earny has a referral program that can earn you $5 for every friend that makes a cashback purchase.
So if you’re like me and you like #freemoney, give Earny a try.
Earn Freebies With FetchRewards
FetchRewards: Turn Your Receipts into Cash
- Earn money on every receipt that you take photo of with FetchRewards.
Are you ready to turn your receipts into gift cards or even prepaid credit cards? FetchRewards is an app that does just that. How it works is simple. You download the app, then start snapping pictures of your receipts, and FetchRewards will take care of the rest.
You’ll start accumulating points, and once you reach 3000 points, you can cash out. You might be thinking: how long does it take to reach 3000 points? Well, don’t worry cause a lot of the offers on the app can quickly get you to the 3000 thresholds, so that’s not that big of a deal. The offered range is anywhere between 200 and 2000 points so you should be fine.
You can cash out on gift cards to most of the big retailers or get a prepaid VISA or MasterCard.
So you better start getting used to taking pictures right after your shopping trips are over.

Decluttr: Money Making App That Can Sell Anything
- Make money selling anything from CDs, books, and old tech.
- Instant quote, easy to use, and Free of charge shipping.

Best For Drivers: Postmates
Postmates: Make Up to $25 Delivering Food
- Make money delivering things as long as you own some type of vehicle (a car, scooter, truck, etc).
Driving to make money is a traditional way of making money part-time. Working for Postmates, you’ll be delivering food, meals, and groceries to people that order it. The pay varies greatly. It factors a lot of things such as miles crossed, order waiting time, and how many deliveries you make per hour. The good news is that you get to keep 100% of the tips.
The application process is pretty simple; you first sign up on their website, confirm your information, then Postmates will perform a background check. When you pass the background check, you receive your delivery bag, prepaid credit card to pay for orders, and you’re good to go.
To apply, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be 18 years or older.
- Have access to a car, scooter, or other types of vehicles.
- Pass a background check.
Typically, Postmates couriers get paid anywhere from $18 to $25 per hour.
Wikibuy: Make money on your shopping trips
- Earn money when you shop online and in stores, get cash back and reward in your purchases.
Wikibuy is best suited for those who like to shop online and in stores. It focuses mainly on finding you the best deals and giving you rewards and freebies.
Wikibuy can help you find the best deals on things you’re purchasing anyway, so you never have to overpay, and you can credit points that you redeem for gift cards to places like Nordstorm, Walmart, and every other major retailer.
Not quite a money-making app, but you’re still earning money back and getting #freestuff, so I can’t complain. To top it off, Wikibuy is entirely free to use.
Field agent is a mystery shopping app that pays you to do missions in business around your local area. Typically, 2 hours to get to the store, check the product, submit a photo, and your mission is complete. Jobs on Field Agent pay anywhere from a couple of bucks to $12 per job, so it varies a lot. You get paid via PayPal.
Qmee is one of my favorite survey apps. They offer short surveys on a variety of different subjects. They pay anywhere from $0.50 to $2 per survey, but the polls are pretty quick, and if you go for high paying ones, you can end up making a nice amount per hour. The best way to make the most is by checking the app often and taking surveys whenever you have time, which shouldn’t be a problem since Qmee makes it so easy to take surveys on the go.
If you like photography and you’re always taking pics with your phone, then Foap is the money-making-app for you. With Foap, you can download the app, upload your photos, then when it sells, Foap will split the profit 50/50 with you.
Another feature you can leverage to make money with this app is the Missions feature. You can submit photos for a specific mission posted by Fap for hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars
Best Passive Income Apps
I decided to include this section because I live those set-it-and-forget-it types of apps. The apps that pay money just for installing them. Well, if you’re like me, then you should like this section.
Getaround: An app that allows to rent your car
- Diversity in which you can make money.
- Reputable and trustworthy.
- Flexibility and ability to make money anywehre
Have a car that you don’t use all the time? You can make money by renting it. GetAround allows you to rent your vehicle on your hours and schedule. To list your car, you must first meet some requirements:
- The vehicle must be 2010 or newer.
- Have less than 125,000 miles.
If your car meets the requirements above, you can start by signing up on GetAround’s website and setting the dates; pick and drop off locations of your vehicle. You get to use the app for free in the first 30 days; then, you’ll have to pay an early time fee of $99 bucks then a flat fee of $20 to keep using the app, which is payable with the income generated from the app.
GetAround claims that some owners are making an extra $800, but I doubt that’s the overall average.
See how much you can make by signing up for GetAround.
Trim AI Assistant
Trim: AI assistant that lowers your bills
- Negotiates your bills for you to get lower bill rates.
- Detailed reports of all your spending plans.
- Takes %33 of whatever they save you, and completely free if they find nothing.
Trim is an AI assistant that helps find lost/forgotten money. It is not your classic money-making app per se, but if you don’t have time to pull a pen and paper and go through every single card payment, subscription plans, car insurance, cable, internet, and phone plans, the Trim app is the app for you. Trim helps get lost money in 2 ways:
- By identifying holes in your spending plan where you’re overpaying, or you might not even use the service you’re paying as the decision is yours at the end of the day.
- It negotiates your bills for you, so you get lower bills.
In both scenarios, this is easy to get some extra money that’s better saved or spend elsewhere. Trim is 100%, they do take 33% of whatever money they manage to save
Achievement is a little different than other apps. This one allows you to connect with over 30 health tracking apps, and after doing that, you’ll be eligible to earn 80 points each day. 80 points equates $0.08 so 10.000 points = $10. However, there are ways to accelerate your point earning potential like referring your friends and family, which earns you 500 points per referral, or taking their surveys. Their survey points range between 5 – 50 points per survey.
Similarly to SmartApp. MobileXpression will give you 2 points for every week you keep the app installed on your pc, tablet, or phone. You’ll earn a $5 gift card for every 10 points or a $10 gift if you wait for 15 points. You receive payments in 1 – 3 days.
They also require you to use a VPN.
Smart App is one of the highest earn-money-passively apps. You can earn up to $5 per month running their software on your phone, computer, or tablet. They have a loyalty bonus program that allows you to earn $15 every 90 days. Adding those bonuses, you can make up to $10 monthly by installing this app.
The only drawback is that they require you to use a VPN. Read more about it on their FAQ page.
PhonePaycheck is easily the highest earner here. You can install it on five devices at once, which will earn you up to $80 bucks a month. The only problem is that they only accept 1000 users at a time. They are currently not accepting new users, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for whenever they need new users again.
Money Making Apps FAQ
In my experience, the best money making apps are usually the apps that you provide some type of service in return for money. Side gigs apps like Postmates, TaskRabbit, GigWalk, GetAround, and few more are some of the highest paying apps. Swagbucks and the rest of the get-paid-to apps can make you some money but not to the extent where you can depend on it.
Absolutely. Popular and reputable companies are behind apps like Swagbucks, InboxDollars, Earny and the list goes on. There are few scams out there to be wary of, but for the most part, a lot of the apps that you hear about actually pay their members’ real money. It’s all about doing the research and staying vigilant at all times.
The best money making apps as of august, 2020 are:
- Swagbucks: best overall app. You can make money doing a lot of things, and they pay their members.
- InboxDollars: Great Alternative to Swagbucks, they are almost identical.
- Earny: Get refunds and cashback on purchases you make.
- TaskRabbit: Flexible side gig app that allows you to set your rate and work on your hours.
